    On grooming my Bichon-
We have her ‘done’ every other week. We have this awesome groomer “Paws Around Town”,
that comes to our house and gives her the whole treatment. It is the only way we can keep her coat long and keep it from getting matted.

I have Manny’s hair cut really short every 8 weeks or so, and then I brush him all the time … nearly every day. I know Manny needs to go to the groomer when it’s time for me to go to the salon. :o )

Our 4 yr old Bichon, Cooper, is professionally groomed (cleaned, clipped, etc) every 4-5 weeks. Too prevent excessive matting between groomings, he is brushed at least 1-2 times per week at home. Our groomer charges about $40 per visit.

I used to take my puppies every 6 to 8 weeks, but with the economy the way it is, me and my daughters groom them ourselves every 2 weeks now. We just scissor them (we tried clipping, but that was a mess – poor Holly had to wear a sweater for like a month). I use a lot of conditoner and that helps with the tangles. We are getting better and better at grooming, and they love all the fussing we do over them.

I have two Bichons. One I have had for a while and he is groomed every 8 weeks and the other dog will be on the same schedule. I think it works out great but here is the thing my male is curly all over and the female has straight hair is that a normal thing and will my female who is only 12 months old turn curly or will she stay straight hair?

I brush my darling every day and bath her once a week I enjoy it and she does to, as she does not stay clean for long when you live in the out back of Australia. Her name is Dusty.

I clip Dusty when ever I think she needs a tidy up or I clipper her about every 3 or so weeks we have fun :-) .

I have 2 bichons Monique and Angus. Anguse is now 13 and Monique 10. They go to their groomer every 8 weeks and I groom them in between. This has been on a regular basis since they came into my care at 8 weeks. I use both a blower and hairdryer. I used to have them scissor cut in show coat but I think it is kinder now that they are older to have a short coat. Angus came at 8 weeks with a stunning coat Monique developed hers and she is a real stunner. I don not show either of them. However both are gems. Monique qualified as a therapy dog . Little did I know I was training her for me . I am a stomach cancer survivor.

I have Sophie groomed about once every 8 weeks as well. I like to keep her cleaned and low trimmed. Her face is fluffy (not like show dog fluff), but her back is pretty low where you can see a little of her skin. Not much, but you can see it. In between the grooming, I have little hair cutting scissors that I use to trim her.

We groom our Sammy professionally every 10 weeks. We clip him down to a half inch and since they blow dry his hair he still looks like a bichon. We bathe him every two weeks ourselves in between going to the groomers. We clip his nails every two weeks as well. We brush his hair every few days (nothing formal, just as we watch tv.). This schedule works well. It’s cost effective and he stays looking nice.

Koby is 7 months … I groom him myself … ever since a got him at 2 1/2 months I put him in the shower every week … I do have his nails and other grooming done at the Doc’s … he loves the bath However does anyone know of a good shampoo … I saw on a site months ago a woman that had several bichon’s and she made her own shampoo … I can’t find the recipe

I bathe my 2yr. neutered male Jack (rescue dog) at least 1xweek in the tub. I use “Jasmin Natural Tearless Shampoo for Pets”. I don’t press the “no tears” feature…I try to keep the suds out of his eyes.

It seems to work well, but the real question on grooming is how often do you a) brush the dog and/or comb him or her?, b) how often do you cut their coat?

I am not one of these beauty parlor dog owners who has the time to spend 1 hour x day brushing my dog. I like him with his curls. However, he starts getting “nats” or those clumps of hair if I don’t take a pair a scissors to him at least once per month. It doesnt have to be a huge makeover, but you do need to keep after the hair so it doesnt get too long and so fleas won’t live in the nats…

Our Camille gets professionally groomed every 4 weeks. In between we brush her out and clean her eyes and ears every 2-3 days. We keep her in a puppy cut. We don’t usually bathe her between groomings unless she’s gotten into something muddy or smelly. If that happens we try to have her bathed at her day care as we aren’t very good at getting her “fluffy” after a bath. We have a great groomer and the cost is $30 which is a bargain around here.
