that video was so moving im nearly in tears! i have 2 bichons and have been in a dilema wether to breed them or not, i think i have made my mind up now, just need to find out all i need to know! any hints or tips or advice would be great

  3. Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video! The breeding was done by a professional breeder who also happens to be a nurse. I was just the one filming. I would recommend to find someone with breeding experience to help if you have never done it before.

that made me cry… it reminded me of my baby girl jazzy when she was a pup… (jazz passed away recently) it was very educational and quite a breathtaking video.

  11. that was so cute but please remember that breeding animals isnt always the best thing because they might go to a poor home but that was very cute

  12. That was an excellent video! I was very impressed.

Those puppies were absolutely adorable are all of them including the mom still alive?

  14. Yes! All the puppies lived fine. The Mother is also doing well. We own one of those puppies. Here she is all grown up.

We are soon getting a male bichon we already have a female bichon minnie, and we are going to breed them very soon! I’m so excited i’ve wanted to do it for a long time, my biggest fear is a puppy dying is it likely?

  16. suzanne

I love this website . My Cuddles will be having babys in Nov 2008 and I sure hope I or we can do it. I`m scared for her. I never had babys. So she is 1 of my babys

  19. SAP

wow…what a video! Very touching, but I’m curious why you opted to clean the pups instead of letting her do it? Thought it was best to allow her and then intervene if needed. My bichon is due in Dec & this video was helpful.

  20. The video is of course an edited version of the birth, there was not really as much “helping” as it might appear.

  21. SAP

oh, glad to hear that. Thanks!

  22. kiran

my bichon is 38 days pregnant with her 1st litter anyone any idea how long they are pregnant for i have never bred before and i am really worried

  27. Tears, tears, tears! I think it’s because Bichon’s look so alike, it’s easy to visualize your own dog there. So sweet!

  30. We have 2 bichons. Miss Lucy is due any day and this was very helpful. I used to bread huskies but that was 15 years ago, so nice to see this to remind me what to do. Made me cry. I don’t remember cutting the cords. I’m pretty sure the mama took care of that?? I’ll be ready either way. Got her welping box ready and heat lamp. Soooo excited..and its special because Cotton & Lucy are like married!!

On April 13th my sweet Babe had 5 beautiful puppies! She was the greatest and did so well having her puppies. She took the best care of every one of them. She and Munckin, thier proud poppa had 4 girls and 1 boy. It was wonderful! I was able to sell 3 of them to wonderful loving people. I have 1 left and her name is Lei Lei. We are keeping Co Co, the littlest one. At 15 weeks Co Co weighs 4 1/4 lbs. Lei Lei weighs 4 3/4 lbs. I have had numerous out of state people wanting Lei Lei but I insist on meeting each new owner and will not ship them. We are so attached to them and want them to be well taken care of and that is how it has to be. I do keep in touch with the new owners because I care so much about them. Your birth video is beautiful. Thank you very much. Bichons are the best!

Im so terrified right now. My bichon Ella is pregnant, but it isnt with another Bichon. The woman who watched her for us brought some male dog into the the home! I am 16 and my dad has told me I am the one who has to help Ella deliver her babies. I have no idea how to do that and I am so scared I am going to screw up! Any advice?

    • paulette purdue

I think that the women that brought the male dog ovewr to your home and allowed it to breed with your little bichon is liable for the vet bills. I would take her to small claims court if she does not agree to taking responsibilty for this problem that she allowed to happen. If the male dog is a larger dog or mix breed with a large breed mixed into his genes, there could be a serious problem for you bichon carring the puppies and delivering them. I hope that you Dad helps to work this situation out with you, he should be on your side. I ask God to help you and your bichon. Paulette

Is she ok? How was everything? I have an 11 month and I think she is pregnant and I am reading too many things that I don’t know what to do…

      • Anny

Well that is not good. Did you talk to your Vet before she got pregnant? She is a puppy still.A bitch need’s to be 1.5 years old. Or the third heat caycal. I feel so bad for your dog.

To see this birth is to see the hand of the creator! He gives us such wonderful gifts, such as our dog companions. My bichon just gavwe birth last night, it is such a beautiful thing to see and be a part of the miracle of life. I enjoy my dogs so very much. They are so affectionate. Their love is unconditional, again the hand of our Lord at work. The bichon is a very charming and delightful dog. Please research information regarding this little dog. One thing is certain, they must be with you almost all the time! People who work and leave this type of dog alone for 8-10 hours a day should consider getting a pet bird instead! My baby puppies will be ready for their forever home around the middle of March. If intereated, feel free to email me and we can talk. Paulette and bambi, pinki, lulu, ponco and poppi. i am baby sitting two of the dogs for my daughter until she finds a new home.

I want to share a reality story so that people who want to have puppies see both sides. My bichon, bambi had her puppies 4 days ago, she had 7 babies. The birth was a very gentle a short birth from begining to the end. Bambi performed perfectly and did all the instinctive things beautifully. The first three babies where perfect but for one thing, they where still born! She then continued on to the next three and they also where perfectly developed but very week since Bambi gave birth about 12-15 days too early. The three little ones where very tiny and had a hard time sucking for milk. They lived for only a couple of hours and then she had the last baby and this one obviously had died while in her uterus, it was so very tiny, half the size of the others, unfortunately this little one had been dead for awhile. So very very heart breaking to watch the mommy bichon suffer after i had to take the babies from her. She cried just like a baby for almost 5 days and nights. She even cried while I took her for a walk. Her sister just had her babies last night. Bambi lays with her little sister and helps care for the babies, her sister must understand that Bambi needs this, since she will not allow any of the other dogs to get near to her bed. If you where here, you would see two bichons in one bed sharing these little adorable babies. Nature has it’s good and it’s painful realities. But even though this was a heartbreaking experience, the litlle bichon sister, pinki has helped to heal some of Bambi’s pain by allowing her sister to lay, clean and nurse her babies also. Just for a side note, I am making sure that these little ones drink more from their mommy than bambi, in order for them to get the colostrim that they need for protection. My email is nanapurdue@yahoo.com if you are interested in a baby bichon. They will be ready for their permanent home in the middle of March. thank you, paulette
